On August 8th, 2024, the unthinkable happened. Trent H, a 15-year-old student preparing to start his sophomore year of high school, was struck by an SUV while riding his Pit mini bike. He sustained a massive brain injury, and both his fibula and tibia were broken, poking through his skin.

He was life-flighted to a highly reputable hospital in Seattle, where they discovered he had developed a hematoma in his brain. They had to quickly release the pressure from his brain, or it was going to be fatal. They removed part of his skull (the part of his skull they removed has been preserved) and it has not been replaced yet. His lungs were punctured/damaged, and he developed air between his lungs and rib cage, so a tube was inserted to release the air pressure. On Monday (13th), he underwent surgery on his leg to repair the broken bones. On Thursday (15th), they performed an ultrasound on his left arm due to unknown swelling from his elbow down.

Miracles are happening: His drain tube was removed from his skull, and he is off the ventilator, but he is receiving oxygen. His saturation keeps dropping, and his heart rate gets very high. The doctors don't know what is causing this to happen. He is still not very responsive, but we do see little miracles each day. He is still in ICU, and we do not know when he will be moved out of there. Physical therapy came in today (15th), but because he is not fully awake, there is nothing they can do for him. They do not know what the future holds for Trent. The doctors will be doing another MRI to narrow down what the future will look like, but until they can get his breathing under control from the phlegm in his lungs and the brain swelling goes down a bit more, they will hold off on the MRI. But, what we do know is that this is going to be a long and painful recovery.

With all that said, his family is with him. Family flew in from out of state to be with his grandma (who has been raising the boys) and Trent's twin brother Bryce. But the cost of staying close to Trent in Seattle has been a lot on the family. Not only are they paying for their hotel, but food, gas, ferry, and their household expenses still need to be paid. So, we are trying to help the family out by taking a little stress off their shoulders. This is an amazing family with a heart of gold. They are always willing to help anyone who might need it, expecting nothing in return. Trent is an upcoming photographer who has found his calling. He is a funny, heartfelt, thoughtful, kind, and friends with everyone kind of guy. He gets good grades and always addresses adults with yes Ma'am and yes Sir. We wanted to share some pictures of him before the accident so you can get an idea of the Trent we know and love.

A lot of people have reached out wanting to help. This is where you all come in. Let's help this family so they can focus in on Trent's recovery.
