Help Support A Special Needs Kitten

See below for an update…
My name is Katie Evans, and I am a co-admin for Friends of Gloucester County Community Cats. It’s our mission to educate the county about the resources we have available and the importance of spaying/neutering your pets and TNR (trap-neuter-return) for feral or community cats that cannot be socialized/adopted.
Earlier this past August, my trapping team and I rescued a litter of 5 week old kittens after someone reached out about a “paralyzed” kitten. After an initial vet visit and x-ray, it was thought that the kitten, Billy, had a congenital defect leaving a rear leg unusable, unable to bend and pointing out backwards towards the tail.
Update as of 11/24/24:
For those who read my original post in September, we have since then that Billy is a girl… after we all thought she was a boy! So now the situation tugs at my heartstrings even more, our itty-bitty little princess
After this past week’s visit with a specialist, we learned that Billy’s injury is due to trauma she experienced to her hamstring which resulted in the lameness of her leg. It saddens me that this is the only option to improve her life but many have assured me she will adapt just fine as a three-legged kitty! The surgeon said that to her it is already gone since she doesn’t try to use it all and fortunately she’s still never showed any signs of pain or discomfort.
She’s now 4 months old, 4.2 lbs and the surgeon is comfortable to proceed with surgery on 12/4/24.
Billy is a product of what happens when community and feral cats are being fed and not fixed, not TNR. We are actively working to TNR in this area so we do not have anymore kittens! Billy’s mom was recently TNR; she is doing well and enjoying life without harassment from the males.
Update on the colony as of 11/24/24: the last adult female was caught today and will be spayed tomorrow! All males have been fixed now too. Only 2 younger kittens left to catch and hopefully will be socialized and adopted. Any additional funds for this fundraiser will go towards helping community and feral cats.
We are fundraising to help cover the cost of surgery to help Billy live a more comfortable and mobile life.
