Joe Slobodny "Slobo" LOVE WINS

Donation protected
UPDATE:
It is with a broken heart that I have to say Joe lost his battle on November 10th. He was surrounded by love, family and friends and he did not suffer.  He was still making funny faces and smiling up until the very end.
I have learned that cancer cannot beat out LOVE.  Love wins everytime.  We have had so many amazing and giving people distracting us with kindness and generosity throughout this difficult journey.  Some were family, some were old friends and some were strangers who are now forever our family.

One of the very last things I said to Joe was a promise that I would do something in his name to help others, and payback the kindness that we were shown.
As soon as I can I will get started on this.
We celebrated Slobo on the West Coast last week and on December 16th, we will celebrate him with a memorial celebration on Long Island.  Please reach out to me if you want the details.  Invites will be done soon.

It is a beautiful thing to know that Joe knew exactly how I felt about him and vice versa. We lived a full life these past ten years with no regrets.  I will forever be grateful that I was his wife.  I am not sure why this happened but I am so proud of my sweet Joe and how he handled it every step of the way.  I have faith that we will find eachother again one day.

Update: Please share this page to show your continued support for an incredible and selfless man, and a couple that defines love. Thank you to everyone who participated in last week's Friday Five.  Elle has a message for you,

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your love, support and prayers. This is a really challenging time, but we feel really blessed to have you in our lives. Unfortunately, we received discouraging news. Joe may not be responding to chemo. However, we're continuing a new treatment of Avastin and we're hopeful. Joe has remained so brave throughout this all. So many people have generously asked how they can help and I am amazed at and for that we are so grateful. At this time, your support of this page by sharing it, donating, and constant prayers are truly the best way to support us. Thank you again for everything. - So much love, Elle and Joe #FridayFiveforJoe"

UPDATE, 9/28: Unfortunately, Joe has developed another tumor now on the right side of his brain, also inoperable. He is undergoing extensive chemotherapy as it is pressing on his optic nerve and affecting his vision. Joe has been sent home and is in need of private care, as insurance only covered 30 days.  Please consider donating and/or sharing this website to help reduce the added financial stress during an already stressful time.

If you were thinking about making a donation to a good cause during the fast approaching holiday season, please consider donating here. If we replace “I” with “We” even illness can be turned into wellness.

Thank you all for donating and continuing to ask about Joe’s progress.
-------------------------
Joe is one of a kind, he is a sweetheart who will make you laugh until your sides hurt and cooks a mean meal. Joe and Elle are the most loving couple who will do anything for their friends, family and community. Throughout Joe's life, he's always put others first - moving home to take care of his mother, moving to LI to care for a family member who needed their help, being a shoulder to lean/cry on for friends, always with a smile and good joke to make you feel better. Now it's our turn to be there for Joe.

Joe was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in September 2016 and the medical bills are starting to come in. These bills include insurance deductibles for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy as well as in-patient care at two facilities and medical transportation. Unfortunately, social security disability income doesn't kick in until April.

Joe and Elle need to focus on his recovery and not feel the burden of these bills. Recovery is expensive so as their friends and family, let's come together to give what we can to support the recovery of our dear friend, Joe.
