Duchenne muscular dystrophy, DMD, is a progressive disease caused by an absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact.
Jaser Khowessa was diagnosed at age 5 and after a muscle biopsy, the most severe form of Muscular Dystrophy was confirmed. Jaser walked, jumped, played baseball and was very active. Now, at age 14, he can no longer walk or stand! This disease has no cure, but we are always hopeful. Jaser is an amazing, kind, caring, funny young man. This diagnosis doesn’t define him! Everybody who meets him loves him deeply and is in awe of his dynamic personality!
