My Partner recently had a major stroke leaving the entire left side of her body paralsed. She is only 32years old and now unable to walk or talk properly so I am helping her, tell her story. She doesn't have travel insurance and her medical expenses are currently in excess of $50,000. I am writing this for her and with her, in hopes that she will be able to get the medical support she desperately requires. As some of you may know a stroke is crippling, your body and brain can't communicate properly and everyday since the stroke has been an up hill battle with only slight improvement. Here is her story.
Hi my name is Jo Mary Rose or Jomz to my friends. I have recently had a major stoke which has changed my whole world with no insurance and in a strange country!!!
It all started 14 months ago when I fell in love with the man of my dreams, we met, we fell in love and we were both planning our lives together.
We connected from the instant we met. From then on we were inseparable for 3 and a half months, day and night only leaving each other when Grantt (my partner) had to go to work. We had so much in common and the time past so quickly, it was was almost time to return home. I was on a visitors visa, staying with family and friends for 6 months.
The day arrived that I had to head back to my home country of the Philippines. It was both a sad and happy time for me.
After 6 months apart I had finally saved enough money to return to Australia and to be with the man I loved. So it's October 2016, I'm 32 and in love with so much to look forward to. We were planning our lives together, talking about marrige, maybe even starting a family in a year or two. Life is wonderful, well not always perfect but we have more ups than downs. I am young and in Australia, one of the most beautiful countries in the world to be with my partner. I don't even think about getting travel insurance as I feel great and don't have any medical conditions. Big mistake.....
Then late Saturday night the 11th of February, after nights of extremely hot weather, I start to get a severe headache. I think maybe I'm dehydrated or this hot weather is starting to get to me. We go to bed, I try to ignore it but at 1am in the morning I woke my partner to tell him something was wrong, really wrong, we need to go to the hospital now. As you can imagine we were both in shock, but it was only going to get worse!!!
By the time I had gotten to the hospital, I had suffered a major stroke. The entire left side of my body is paralysed, I am in a state of disbelief. My life has just been completely turned upside down. I couldn't imagine being 32 years old and suffering from a stoke that has left me bed ridden and unable to walk, talk properly or even feed myself. I am currently in the stroke unit of our local hospital, requiring 24 hour acute care and continual medication since Sunday the 12th of February. My medical bills are growing by the day and I don't have any health/travel insurance my life's savings are spent on medical bills.
The doctors aren't sure how complete my recovery will be or how long it will take, however they are sure when I am released I will require many months of physiotherapy just to bring some normality back to my life.
I am asking all of you beautiful people in the world to see my story and help me achieve my goal of covering some of the hospital expenses. I need your support and kindness to help pay my current expenses and return to the Philipines to recieve the essential treatment I need to be able to walk and talk again. We are paying $2,135 per day just to be in hospital (bed only) that doesn't include additional MRI scans, CT scans, blood tests, ultrasounds and other tests. We also have various Doctor's consultation fee's on a daily basis. I have been in hospital for 2 weeks already and they are looking at least another 2 weeks of hospital stay, then months and months of physiotherapy.
After I am released from hospital, I was hoping to fly home to the Philippines so I could continue my physiotherapy. Being with my family and friends in the Philippines would give me the support and love I will need to recover. Doctors have insisted I wait a minimum of 4 weeks after the stroke before I can fly to prevent it potentially happening again. To tavel within the next 12 months I will require medical care which will mean either a doctor or nurse will need to fly with me.
I am so very grateful to each and every person for their kindness and hope you can help me. I have been so very blessed by your kind words and support thus far and I thank you.
