Jon Funes - Glioma Brain Tumor

Donation protected
Jon Funes was diagnosed with a Glioma brain tumor the size of a lemon in the left primary motor cortex.  Because of its complexity, only 25% was able to be removed by surgery. Now facing chemo therapy and radiation to fight the aggressive tumor, Jon is starting rehab to learn simple tasks like talking, walking and eating. Jon, his wife and their seven children need our help!

Background
Jon Funes is a faithful, loving and generous man that is a leader and pillar in our community. He has devoted countless hours and years of service helping the youth in our community. His positive attitude and love for everyone has been felt by all that know him. He is a tremendous father that loves and honors his wife and children. He had no indication of what was about to happen.

On January 16th, 2019 Jon visited the doctors after feeling numbness and tingling on the right side of his face and neck as well as noticing issues with his memory.  His doctors ordered an MRI and the results showed that he had a “lemon sized” tumor in the left primary motor cortex of his brain.

Surgery was scheduled immediately for February 1st. Because the location of the tumor was in the primary motor cortex, doctors knew that resecting the tumor would be difficult. They hoped to be able to remove as much as possible without affecting Jon's speech and motor skills.  The doctors goal was to remove 50-60% through surgery and attack the rest with chemo therapy and radiation.  After a 6.5 hour surgery, the doctors were only able to remove about 25% of the tumor.

Moving Forward
There is still much that is unknown of Jon's recovery and future treatments. However, knowing the tumor is located in the primary motor cortex there is a long road ahead for Jon in rehabilitation and therapy. Right now Jon has about four hours daily of occupational, physical and speech therapy. Learning simple tasks such as walking and how to talk are part of this daily regimen. Chemo therapy and radiation treatments are scheduled to start soon. During this time and the foreseeable future Jon will be unable to work to support his family financially.

Through all of this, Jon has had a smile on his face and has approached this in true “Jon fashion.”  He and his family believe in miracles and have faith that God can do ALL things. We believe with them... and we truly believe that the donations raised from all of you will be one of the many miracles and tender mercies that they experience through Jon’s journey.

Please join us to minimize some of the financial stress on Jon, his loving wife, and their seven wonderful children. Thank you for your kindness, your prayers and well wishes for Jon and his family.
