Jon Hansen's Injury Recovery Fund

Whoa! Look at all these bikes that still need repaired! Where’s Jon and why is he not at work today?

Jon broke his hip and his pelvis at the BMX track!

What?!

That’s how I heard about what happened to Jon Hansen. I was told by my co-worker at Pine Mountain Sports that he was at the BMX track with his daughter and he had a nasty crash that broke his hip and cracked his pelvic bone. Jon is one of our main bicycle mechanics at the shop and he comes in every morning at 4:30AM to turn out a steady stream of rejuvenated bikes. When you're still asleep, Jon is here at the shop working getting your bike done for you! Jon makes lots of cyclists very happy - but where is he now?

Jon is at home trying to fix his broken body. No, not with tools but with time and rest and the support of his community of friends. He's going to be off his feet and unable to work at the shop for up to six weeks. This is going to be a costly crash for his household to try and absorb.

In addition to lost wages during the six weeks of healing there are going to be some medical bills from his initial hospital visit and what's certain to be some follow up visits and a bit of physical therapy.

Money can't mend broken bones but it can provide some (financial) stress relief. He (and his wife and daughter) would greatly appreciate any donations to ease the financial strain. Since Jon can't work right now, our goal is to try and ease some stress on his mind so that he can put that energy into resting and healing his body.

So you’re probably asking “who’s writing this and asking for my help?” This is Peter, a fellow co-worker and friend at Pine Mountain Sports. I’ve worked with Jon for over 4 years now and see first-hand that he enjoys doing his job well and seems to genuinely care about our customers and their bikes. And while we miss having him here at the shop, we'd like to make sure that he can heal up at home, keep weight off of his broken hip, and not stress about a month and a half of lost wages and medical expenses.

Thanks so much for your help!
