Jon Hobbs - Pen Y Fan Climb (2900ft)

IT’S ON… PEN Y FAN, I’m coming for you!!! ⛰️
On the 6th April this year, I aim to get to the summit of Pen Y Fan to raise money for Spinal Research.
MY STORY: For those that don’t know me, in 2007 I sustained a Spinal Cord Injury in a diving accident which left me paralysed from the chest down. Not only did it flip my world upside down but it changed me and my life forever.
Over the past 17 years I’ve tried to live as normal a life as possible, I’ve overcome many hurdles and built a great life but I’ve never really pushed myself outside of my comfort zone!
So… with that in mind, when a close friend of mine (Lloyd Collier) told me he was going to compete in the Marathon Des Sables to raise money for Spinal Research I thought it was the perfect opportunity to not only show him my support but to also challenge myself and with that, the idea of climbing Pen Y Fan was born.
I’ve recruited a team of family and friends to help me climb to the top, pose for that infamous Pen Y Fan photo and hopefully get me back down (which is going to be the hardest part of the challenge).
Since my accident I’ve been the one blessed with peoples kindness and support, especially those in my local community, so now I’d like to give something back and try to help others.
THE CHARITY: Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord.
They receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for their research. Because of the efforts of their supporters, they have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.
GET INVOLVED: Please show your support by climbing Pen Y Fan with your friends or family at a time / date that is convenient to you (BUT BEFORE 30TH APRIL 2024) and send us a photo at the top for us to share on our socials!!!
We do ask kindly that people try to avoid the 6th April as this is the date we will be carrying out the challenge and due to Health & Safety & Insurances we have been advised to keep the climbing group to a minimum.
Please help by sharing this page to spread the word.
I’d be extremely grateful for any donations you are able to contribute.
