Jon Laughrin memorial bench replacement
Donation protected
Sadly last week we reported the news that the bench installed at the top of Pewsey Hill, overlooking the White Horse had been destroyed in an unfathomable act of vandalism. Our family have been so touched by the outpouring of love and sympathy, and so heartened by the kindness and generosity of this incredible village and its inhabitants.
Dad was never happier than when serving this incredible community, and always believed there were positives to find in any situation. It’s been so touching to hear your story’s of him and his local impact, but also to hear how many people have used and enjoyed the bench and its beautiful outlook over the years.
So many people have asked if they could make a donation towards a replacement, so we felt this might be a way to move forward in a positive way.
Its been suggested that for on-going maintenance reasons and to avoid a similar fate in the future, we should consider a wood effect recycled plastic bench, and we’ve identified, with support from PPC, a suitable option.
In order to be fully transparent, should any surplus funds be raised, this will be donated to another community initiative or cancer charity, in memory of Dads legacy, all details and receipts will be available/visible for clarity.
Thank you so much for you love and kindness, Nina, Claire and Annie xx
