Jon Llewellyn

Who is Jon Llewellyn?

Jon is a 47 year old kind, humble husband & father of 4. He grew up in Illinois, and is a 1991 graduate of University of Illinois, where he earned a Masters of Civil/Structural Engineering degree. Jon was an accomplished wrestler for UI, becoming the first 3-time All American in the school’s history. At the NCAA Big Ten Championships, he placed 3rd in 1989 & 1990, going on to become the 1991 Champion. Jon also placed 3rd in the 1992 & 1996 Olympic wrestling trials.

Jon & Kara are parents of 4 children: Killian (24) pursuing a medical degree, Kaitlin(22) enrolled in Physician’s Assistant program, Kadin(19) studying at The Ohio State University & Kimber(17) Perrysburg High School senior, accepted to The Ohio State University, fall 2016.

The Llewellyn family has been active members of the community since moving to Perrysburg. Jon has significantly contributed to the success of Perrysburg wrestling programs by serving on the executive board of the Perrysburg Biddy Wresting Club and coaching at various levels. The Llewellyn’s are active at both Cedar Creek and Grace United Methodist Church, Perrysburg. The Llewellyn children have actively participated in numerous Perrysburg Athletic programs.

What is Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia (FTD)?

FTD is characterized by rapid progressive brain atrophy. FTD causes dramatic changes in personality, continual decline in behavior and/or language; becoming socially inappropriate, impulsive, and emotionally indifferent (with memory usually relatively preserved). As the disease progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult for people to plan or organize activities, interact with others, and care for oneself. There is no known cure for FTD and doctors can only focus on easing the symptoms. The disease inevitably gets worse and eventually patients require 24 hour care. Caregivers need assistance from family members, friends, community, and support groups.

FTD can be a very isolating disease requiring active steps to develop a network of social, emotional and practical supports, as well as respite or home health care.

No one – even the most capable, loving and determined – can manage this disease alone!

What can you do?

After supporting his family for years, Jon has lost his job and is now unable to work. He has also had to surrender his driver’s license and is increasingly reliant on Kara and others for support. Although Kara has always worked, while raising their children, her employment has been part-time. Jon has applied for social security disability benefits but because he is so young, he’s not likely to receive approval anytime soon. Jon is unable to work and his condition is worsening. Kara is seeking full-time employment. The entire family is in desperate need of your prayers and any assistance you can provide.
