Jon McCool Lung Transplant Fund
Donation protected
Jon was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a terminally incurable disease with not much hope of ever seeing his 20's. Thirty six years later he still fights every minute to make each day count. Unfortunately, his lungs can no longer withstand the battle and the time has come to explore other options. For years he has debated, should the time ever come, whether or not he would undergo a full double lung transplant. Until recently, the answer was no. However, after the birth of his nephew Lawson and falling in love with his fiance' Donna and her amazing children, Cheslyn, Seth, and Kensley, the decision to fight on by whatever means necessary became the easiest one he'd ever made.
Jon has exercised and worked every day for the past six years to maintain a level of health that would enable him to fight as long as possible. Over this past year however, he has seen his pulmonary function drop 10% from an already comprimised, but maintained 31% lung capacity. In December 2016 his right lung collapsed and never fully reinflated and will never function properly again. In January 2017 his left lung collapsed and the need for a transplant became immediate.
Lung transplants are not uncommon in CF patients, but neither are they quick, easy, or cheap. After the surgery he will spend up to two weeks in the hospital, followed by three months where he will have to live in an apartment adjacent to Ochsners Hospital in New Orleans. During which, he will have to have a family member or full time caregiver with him at all times. Insurance will not cover all living expenses during this time and with no form of income the cost can be overwhelming.
This is Jon's only chance to continue his life and to bring the joy, love, and excitement that he's known for to those who are blessed enough to share this life with him.
Jon has a family that depends on him and loves him more than life itself. As much as we wish we could fight this disease for him, we cannot. However, we can fight it with him. Any donation will help us to stand beside him as he continues to fight this terrible disease.
Jon is already listed for organ transplant in Louisiana and since he is currently in the hospital, his transplant could happen at any moment. Per Jon's request, any money not used for Jon's transplant, subsequent rehabilitation process, or necessary medications will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help them continue to find life saving medications and procedures to all who suffer from this incurable disease.
From the bottoms of our hearts, Thank you and God Bless you for any amout that you are willing to donate.
