In place of flowers, this gofundme has been created to support ACC research and assist patients suffering from rare cancers at Ellis Hospital in loving memory of Jonathan Farkas. The goal is just Jonathan's birthday.
Jonathan Hatheway Farkas, 29, passed away on April 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with Adrenocortical Carcinoma Cancer (ACC). He was born on December 6, 1994, in Schenectady, New York with a head of bright red hair that was only matched by his sharp wit, and infectious sense of humor.
Jon graduated from Schenectady High School in 2013 before attending Herkimer & Schenectady County Community Colleges where he studied music, before landing a job at the NYS Board of Elections. A self-taught musician, he played the drums, keyboard, bass, saxophone, and tuba but ultimately loved mixing his own music. Jon’s love of music spanned multiple genres, with his favorite artists including Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Funkadelic, Bee Gees, and Kendrick Lamar.
A true polymath, and formidable trivia player, Jon was brilliant and curious and would shame any historian on his vast knowledge of ancient history, from Rome, Mesopotamia, and Egypt to his interest in the ancient Eastern Iranic equestrian nomadic, Scythians. He enjoyed studying ancient civilizations and religion and having discussions about the Bible with his beloved Grandmother when they weren’t busy watching UFC fights.
An animal lover, Jon loved cats and tigers, but his favorite was the forest giraffe, Okapi. He also loved Star Wars, The Sopranos, and Breaking Bad, and got a kick out of comedians Dave Chapelle and Joe Rogan. Jon spent hours in the virtual Middle Ages expanding his dynasty in the Crusader Kings III video game.
