Jonathan Hernandez’s Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hello everyone,This GoFundMe is to raise money for Jonathan Hernandez’s medical expenses. Jonathan is a 17 year old boy from DeQueen Arkansas who was in a really bad car accident on the way to Texarkana on April 28, 2023. Jonathan is currently an 11th grade student at DeQueen high school and he was the passenger in this car accident. The accident was caused due to the severe weather in Texarkana which caused the truck to hydroplane and hit the guard rails at the Red River bridge on highway 71. He was taken to St. Michaels hospital in Texarkana and was then transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. He’s in a very critical condition and received really bad injuries in this car accident. He currently has already had 3 surgeries to control his internal bleeding and 5 surgeries in total. His arms are broken, his fingers are fractured, his shoulder is dislocated, his collarbone is broken, and his bones in his pelvic area are crushed. As far as we’ll know he will be at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for 6-8 weeks. The funds raised will help pay for Jonathan’s multiple surgeries as well as his physical therapy and other medical expenses. We as his family ask y’all to please keep Jonathan in your prayers and send him your strength. We are very thankful to anyone who is willing to donate and we ask y’all to please keep our Jonathan in your prayers. God bless.

Jonathan at this time is in surgery and the surgeons will be doing 2 surgeries at once. They will be working on his internal injuries & internal bleeding. They will also be checking how damaged his neck and pelvic area are and they will be working on it as well. As of right now the surgeons are planning on working on his right arm on Wednesday since they will already be doing a great amount of work on his body today.

Jonathan is currently in surgery. In the surgery he had in the previous update the doctors said that during surgery a part of his bowel didn’t look healthy so they took that part of bowel out and today they will be connecting his bowel together in surgery. If everything goes well today, tomorrow the doctors will work on his fingers, arm, and clavicle.

Jonathan is currently in surgery and the doctors will be working on his fingers, arm, and clavicle. They will also be working on closing the part of his abdomen that they had left open in the previous surgeries. He was in surgery yesterday for 7 hours and the doctors informed us yesterday that his kidneys aren’t working and that all we can do is wait and see if they’ll start working on their own in the next few days.
7:53 a.m. May 4, 2023
Jonathan has been sleeping and every once in a while he’ll wake up for a few moments. He didn’t go into surgery today but his body is in pain. The surgeons closed him up in his previous surgery but they still left the drainage tubes. He’s also been receiving some breathing treatments in order to help take out some of the fluid that has built up in his lungs due to his multiple surgeries.
9:00 a.m. May 5, 2023
Jonathan has been doing a bit better. They have been giving him units of blood and this afternoon he will be going into surgery. The doctors will be removing dead skin from his left side.

In the past few weeks Jonathan had pneumonia and an infection. He’s been having fever throughout these past weeks as well and hasn’t been able to get much sleep. Despite this he has been doing really well. The doctors will be doing any needed surgeries and cleaning his wounds twice a week. He still hasn’t been able to eat solid food since the doctors want to be safe but they have recently started giving him formula to see how he does with it. If he does well, they will slowly progress into giving him solid food. Jonathan was also finally able to enjoy the summer weather today! The doctors took him outside for a bit and he was happy to be able to enjoy the weather and have a change of scenery.

In the past month Jonathan’s health has been improving more and more. During this time the doctors have taken Jonathan at least twice a week to clean his wounds as well as perform some surgeries on him. They have had Jonathan take antibiotics to help him fight any infections he may have. The doctors have also informed us that Jonathan will be in the hospital a bit longer than what we were told before but thankfully he’s been doing way better than the doctors have expected. He’s also able to eat food and keep it down now and he’s been doing great with his physical therapy! This past week he got to go outside and he got to play a bit of basketball, tennis, and soccer (with help of course) and he was also able to sit on his bed and hold himself up all by himself for the first time! We thank everyone for their wishes and prayers and will continue to keep y’all updated.
