Mackey’s race to recovery!
Donation protected
Jonathan Mackey. To know him is to love him, he is the type of man that you want in your corner. The type of man that will drop everything to help a friend. He is such a vital part of the off-road world. He and his family continuously support the off-road community in every way.
If you have seen Mackey race then you know he is all in, all the time. This past weekend during the Average Joe’s Race at Hero’s Ride 2023 he made a run that resulted in his Can-am X3 going end over end. During the incident his retractable harnesses did not lock causing him to sustain a fractured C1 & C2 in his neck, 3 other fractured vertebrae in his back, and a broken rib. We are incredibly thankful that God’s hands were on John during this accident because injuries to the cervical vertebrae in the neck, more times than not, result in paralysis or death. Mackey is currently under the care of a specialized team at UAB where he will remain for the foreseeable future.
John has a long journey ahead of him to recover from his injuries. He is self-employed and owns Mackey’s Stump Grinding located in Cherokee County, AL. He will remain unable to work for an extended amount of time. As most know, bills do not stop coming due even when life turns upside down. John and his wife, Kim, need all the assistance they can get to aid with lost wages and medical care. If you can find it in your heart to donate, they would be incredibly grateful.
