RMH Cancer Ward Fundraiser
Donation protected
Jonathan, Mikka and our good friends are raising money and awareness for the people and organisations that have helped Jonathan during his Bone Marrow Transplant treatment.
100% of all money raised will be distributed to the below organisations:
- The Royal Melbourne Hospital Foundation, particularly Ward 7B
- The Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry & their "Strength to Give" campaign
Throughout Jonathan's cancer journey during this pandemic, we have noticed areas in which we would like to assist in building awareness for and funds to support.
Firstly and most importantly, we noticed that there was not much awareness around Bone Marrow donation in Australia.
Jonathan was one of the lucky ones, whose sister Melissa Davies was a great match. But others are not so fortunate and must rely on the National & International Donor Registries for a less than perfect matched donation for their life-threatening disease such as Leukaemia, other blood cancers and auto-immune diseases.
Of over 40 countries that have established Bone Marrow Donor Registries, Australia is ranked last for their Donor Registry. We hope to change this statistic by raising awareness of the ABMDR, their campaign "Strength to Give" and by having government funding approved to aid in 100,000 new registrations Australia wide.

9/10 times, your life saving donation of bone marrow stem cells is retrieved from a process as simple as giving blood. By registering as a bone marrow donor, through the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, you have the chance to be matched with someone in Australia and worldwide, who might need your specific bone marrow blood cells to survive one day.
Secondly, for all the inpatients on the Royal Melbourne Hospital's Cancer Ward 7B, the 24/7 care that they are receiving is world class. However, being classified as some of the most at risk inpatients of the whole hospital, the ward is locked down from the outside world, including to any visits from loved ones throughout the entire duration of their long, agonisingly difficult and isolating stay.
We have been granted approval from RMH via the RMH Foundation to raise funds for an approved healthcare worker Reflexologist/specialist Massage Therapist who will treat the patients in Ward 7B & ICU during their stay. This treatment will provide inpatients with some much needed relief from the excruciating symptoms & stress they must endure during their stay in the hospital beds.

So in advance, we thank you for your donations in support of future cancer patients of the RMH Cancer Center, and your help in registering for and raising awareness of the Australian Bone Marrow Donor registry.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Hallinan & Mikka Hendra
