Jonathan Powell's Long Road to Recovery
Donation protected
We are Joey and Pam Powell, the immediate family of Jonathan Powell. We are asking for your help for him as he was involved in a serious automobile accident on Sunday, May 3, 2020.
On Sunday, May 3, 2020, Joey received a call that changed everyone's lives forever. Especially our son, Jonathan Powell's. Joey, Jonathan's father, answered the call that he had been involved in a terrible car accident. The police had no information for us, only that he had been airlifted from the scene. It took us over an hour, calling hospitals all over the state of Maryland. We finally found him at MedStar-Washington Hospital Center in D.C. He was in the trauma unit with very serious injuries as a result of the car accident. He was found unconscious at the scene by the officer.
After being evaluated at the hospital, a breathing tube was inserted as he was having difficulty breathing due to his facial injuries, for airway concerns. We were informed he had two large lacerations that were attended to with stitches in his chin, broken jaw at both side hinges under the ear, crushed right cheek bone, shattered left forearm, broken right foot, and several broken ribs.
Several scheduled surgeries where postponed at the beginning. The first for blood pressure issues where we received a call at 5:45 am to get verbal permission to insert ports into his chest and wrist for medicine and monitoring. The second we received a call at 1:45 am they needed to insert another tube into his chest to relieve pressure and release air that was causing him breathing issues. It seemed that pieces of his broken ribs were floating, possibly scratching and irritating his lung.
On Wednesday, May 6, 2020, he went into surgery that lasted 6 hours. Plates and screws to reconstruct his right cheek. He had lost teeth, had teeth wired and did what they could for the jaw. They are not wiring the jaw, they will repair with elastic after the breathing tube is removed. The 2nd surgery was Thursday, May 7, 2020, he went into surgery that lasted 7 hours. Repaired the shattered left arm and the right foot. On Friday, May 8, 2020, the breathing tube was removed. He will have surgery to finish his jaw fractures next week.
Jonathan will be in the hospital for a few weeks, undergoing medical care, therapy and rehab. He is an Independent Contractor who was just starting his own business, with no financial means. He has a young daughter. He needs assistance with living expenses, bills, food, medicine, etc, as soon as possible. Any help towards his financial situation he is now facing would be very much appreciated. He has a long road to recovery. Donations, grocery food cards, prayers, cards, etc. Anything received will go towards him and his daughter. He needs your help, please!
If you need to contact his father, Joey, for any further information, please do so through Facebook messenger.
We appreciate all the prayers and support so far! We got this Jonathan! Love Joey and Pam
