On September 6, 2017 Jonathan Zuniga - a 24 year old Navy corpsman attached to a Marine company - went hiking with his younger brother Nathaniel in the San Jacinto Mountains above Idyllwild, CA. While on the trail returning back to their parked vehicle, a rock slide came down on Jonathan and Nathaniel. Jonathan was killed, and Nathaniel was seriously injured. Nathaniel was sent to a nearby hospital where he later spent time in ICU.
Jonathan had a wife Leah and a two year old son named Trevor. Trevor has a congenital condition called 13q deletion chromosome disorder in which a portion of chromosone 13 is missing. The condition causes developmental disorders that require surgeries periodical. Surgeries.
