Jonathan’s Journey Back
Beschermde donatie
Hi my name is Megan, and I am fundraising for my brother Jonathan Schimpf.
We have had an overwhelming amount of outreach and support for my brother and family. I have learned how much he is loved and appreciated by those who know him. I have also seen humanity at its finest; strangers asking his name to pray and send positive thoughts to him, many asking what more they can do.
On August 27th, my brother was spending time with a group of friends in the boonies as he often likes to do (he loves nature and bike riding). He had a freak accident with a dirt bike. He was found unconscious and unresponsive and was life-flighted to the nearest trauma hospital 2 hours away. He sustained severe head trauma to both hemispheres of the brain in multiple locations. Miraculously, he had no other injuries beyond his head. It was a blessing that he was wearing a helmet to give him this fighting chance.
We know the brain is a very complicated thing, most especially when dealing with TBIs (traumatic brain injuries). With Jonathan’s injury, we still don't know a lot other than his brain needs a tremendous amount of time to heal. Doctors have said they are seeing slight improvements every day, but the recovery will be long, costly and arduous. He has his youth on his side (he will be 35 in 2 weeks) and we are hopeful he will make a miraculous recovery. Those who know him, know that he is a fighter and one of the most lively and happiest people you’ll ever know. He embraces life to the fullest, appreciating all that it holds and genuinely cares about others.
We’ve been told that brain injuries like this will take at least a year to even get a baseline of what his recovery will look like. This GoFundMe seeks to support his mounting medical expenses and future costs associated with plans to address the physical, emotional and cognitive obstacles he may have going forward. Every little bit helps and if you are not in the position to give, your prayers are always welcome and deeply appreciated.
All funds will directly go to Jonathan's care whether in a hospital setting or any followup care from home. Although not anticipated, should there be any funds in excess of his direct needs, we pledge to donate remaining funds to a charity supporting TBI patients.
