Jackye Alexander Medical Assistance and Care Fund

Family and Friends,

I am a man who tends to stay very private and handle things as best I can. I have struggled with letting others know my vulnerabilities in all of this, but my family can use your help.  My wife and kids mean the world to me. I love my wife dearly, and want to do all that is within me to support her.  Our faith in God, His love for us, and our love for each other, helps us persevere.

As many of you know, Jackye, suffered her first stroke March 17, 2014 that hospitalized and confined her to a wheelchair. I have been by her side throughout this whole ordeal, while trying to work full-time. She suffered a second stroke a week later. She fought back through rehab and progressed to walking with a cane.

However, in July 2014, Jackye, unfortunately, experienced a third and a fourth stroke.  During the fourth stroke, she lost her vision and became completely disabled and dependent on two paid caregivers, church family, and friends to care for her during the day while I tried to work. I have tried to care for her on weekends and at night on my own as best I can.

She had a fifth stroke in August 2014 and was hospitalized.  She again went through rehab and I brought her home in October 2014.  We settled into a routine of me back a work and Jackye being home with a caregiver.  We even had the opportunity to resume attending church, which Jackye loves.

Jackye’s medical, drugs, special travel arrangements, caregivers, and household expenses far exceed my monthly income. Although my company insurance and Medicare has covered a portion of her expenses, the portion not covered has helped contribute to a huge financial burden.

I have exhausted all of our available personal monetary resources. I have applied for and received as much government, state, and local assistance that we can qualify for based on our assets. I have liquidated all of our disposable assets to cover expenses.  I remain a fateful fulltime husband while trying to maintain a fulltime job. I have used all of my vacation and sick leave time. Any time off from work now is without pay.

In March 2015, we suffered another setback when she had another stroke and again ended up in the hospital. In August 2015 Jackye also had several seizures. In September, we were able to move her to a skilled facility where she is currently.

My insurance company and Medicare have refused to pay further expenses at the rehab facility and Jackye is being forced to leave. She is being released on November 1st.  We have appealed this decision, but again are faced with unpaid expenses owed to the rehab facility creating another heavy financial load for us to bear.  I must bring Jackye home again so that she can receive the one-on-one attention she needs subject to my financial ability.

Those who know Jackye, realize she had an exuberant personality, profound sense of “keeping it real” and has been a great wife, mother, and a good friend to all. We have been married for 21 years we have a 20 year old daughter and 18 year old son. This has been extremely difficult for them.

Jackye has never complained and remains positive about life; however she misses the things she and our family use to do together, such as going to church and visiting with friends. I feel that Jackye is here for a reason as she/we have been through six strokes and three seizures. I pray for her healing daily. I believe God is a good God, and has and continues to bless us. I also believe God uses situations like ours for others to be blessed as well.

I have prayed for God to help me with my independent private nature. It has been very hard for me to swallow my pride and seek assistance publicly.

I am asking for your help to ease the financial burden of cost for medical assistance and care for my Jackye. I thank you for taking the time to visit this Go-Fund-Me page and for contributing any amount that you can.  It is gratefully appreciated.  May God Bless you.
