Jon's "The Beast" Leukemia Fight

Recently, my friend Jon received the shocking news that he has leukemia. As news spreads to family, friends, and even strangers, we are left in disbelief. Jon is an avid Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, Eagle Scout, varsity wrestler, college grad, military veteran, and best friend of many. On the mat, he has a reputation for providing grueling and painful grappling matches with exceptional cross-face and top pressure to his opponents. However, off the mat, he is known for his ability to come to anyone’s aid at a moment’s notice and his skill at making light of impossible situations. For instance, when he received the news about his leukemia, he jokingly commented about his last Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practice before being hospitalized: "with salt water for blood and a cancer-riddled body, I won all my matches.” And, he did!

Since his diagnosis, Jon has been undergoing intensive chemo and radiation treatments. According to his oncologist, his chemotherapy is a "9 out of 10 with 10 being the most invasive."

His current treatments have left him nauseous, winded, shaking, and with extreme headaches when he moves. Additionally, his red blood cells are periodically low, so he receives blood transfusions weekly. Everyone who has had the unfortunate pleasure of grappling with Jon knows he is a fighter and will defeat leukemia. Regardless, cancer is an incredibly hard fight.

Jon lives a responsible and honorable life with his wife Emmily, but medical insurance does not cover all the compiling costs from the unexpected diagnosis, HE NEEDS OUR HELP.
