Jontavion Hardbody Temple

Donation protected
On August 9th, 2019, fourteen-year-old  Jontavion Hardbody Temple was trapped in his family's apartment as it was fully engulfed in flames.  He suffered third-degree burns over 98% of his body. Jontavion spent ten months in Comer Children's Hospital (Chicago), three and a half of those months in a state of unconscious sedation. Over the ten-month period, Jonathan endured 48 different surgical procedures, the amputation of fingers on his left hand, and 150 blood transfusions.
Currently, Jontavion is participating in intensive therapy four days per week (Shirley Ryan AbilityLab-- Chicago) to address his inability to walk, his very limited range of motion, his chronic pain, and his damaged vision. He visits nine doctors per month for his wide variety of serious medical issues.
At home, his mother must provide daily care and treatment for his still-open burn wounds, as well as assisting Jontavion throughout the day, as his limited physical capabilities have rendered him currently unable to do many basic things on his own.
This fund is being set up to help his family absorb costs for the following: a control panel for his motorized wheelchair, a laser-measured compression garment to help with skin healing, various ointments/supplies to treat his burns, and a modest percentage of the funds for incidental needs such as transportation.  The family has depleted all of its finances, to date, and is in need of your help.
Doctors estimate that Jontavion has at least three more years of therapy and recovery ahead of him. Additionally, Jontavion experiences stress, anxiety, and nightmares on a regular basis.  This fundraiser will hopefully cushion the blow of his family's financial burden.
My name is Robert Moir. I am the facilitator of this fundraiser. I am a volunteer with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (ifsa.org) since 2015. I have participated in many fundraisers over the past several years and have worked as a counselor at Camp I Am Me, a yearly camp for young burn survivors throughout Illinois. This case is particularly close to my heart because of its profound circumstances. If you would like to find out more about our wonderful organization, go to the above website and discover ways you can help all year long. We are always welcoming new patrons and supporters.
To give you a little insight as to Jontavion's unbelievable spirit and character, consider the following: While in Shirley Ryan, full-time, Jontavion met a young man who was in a very serious accident. He said, "You know, you and I were not supposed to survive our accidents. That must mean God has some great plans for us."  With your generous donation, you can help Jontavion Hardbody Temple fulfill his dream of making a positive impact on the world for many years to come. Thank you, very much.
