Jordan Mitchell’s Recovery Journey

On November 19th, Jordan Mitchell, son of Trent and Aimee Mitchell, was traveling home in preparation for a Friendsgiving. As he was driving his motorcycle down 200 North in Kaysville, a minivan pulled out in front of him, causing Jordan to slam into the side of the vehicle. Jordan was ejected from the motorcycle and went head first into the van. Jordan was knocked unconscious, having suffered multiple critical brain injuries. Jordan was flown to the University of Utah Hospital, where he was kept in a medically induced coma and had to have a monitor placed in his skull to evaluate the bleeding and swelling in his brain. After a week of incredibly critical moments, Jordan was finally able to respond to commands. He was kept in the Neuro ICU for over a week and a half, while his parents and four siblings kept a constant vigil at his bedside or in the waiting room. As Jordan finally started to wake up, paranoia and hallucinations set in, as his brain struggled to heal.
Jordan has now been moved to a Rehab unit, but his recovery will be long and hard. Jordan’s long term memory is intact, as he knows his family members and remembers where he worked. Functionality is another story, as he is relearning basic tasks like talking, eating and walking. Jordan needs constant supervision as he is a fall risk, and forgets his own limitations. As incredible as he is doing, and as much as he has been blessed in his recovery, Jordan has a long road ahead of him.
Anyone who knows Jordan, knows that he is intelligent and an extremely hard worker. He is a U of U graduate and has been a long-term employee of Deseret First Credit Union in their Business Intelligence Department. He has also been working part time assisting his family in their business endeavors. Compounding the injury, is that Jordan is incurring a mountain of medical bills. The person who hit him had limited insurance coverage, which was used up within the first day of the accident. Jordan’s own insurance has given the family pushback, and they are fighting just to keep him in the rehab center.
Like anyone his age, Jordan has monthly bills and responsibilities and will not be able to work for some time. We, as friends and family, are setting up this GoFundMe to alleviate financial stress, so that his family can focus on his recovery. Critical care, helicopter rides and rehabilitation are incredibly expensive, on top of Jordan’s normal monthly expenses. Every little bit will help. While we are so truly thankful to the Lord that Jordan is still with us, he has a long way to go. Please keep Jordan and his family in your prayers, and if you can spare any amount, it is greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Kaysville Fire and PD for their quick response, Layton Fire for their airway management expertise, Airmed and the caregivers at the University of Utah and the Craig Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital for their incredible care and support of the family. We will provide updates on Jordan as they are available. Thank you also to the Kaysville and Layton communities, who have reached out and offered their support to Jordan and his family.
