Jordan's Confirmation Surgery
Donation protected
My name is Jordan. I'm a 36 year old woman living in Denver, Colorado. I'm a big movie geek, an avid obsessor of cartoons, and I'm a fan of the punk rock music. I have two cats - one is a jerk, the other is nuts. I'm also a stand up comedian who has been performing since around 2006. No, seriously:
In 2011, I came out as transgender. Up until that point, I had been living under the guise of being male, something that was incredibly excruciating. Even though I knew I was female since an incredibly young age, I stayed closested because I was completely petrified about how society treated transgender people. It left me severely depressed to the point where I was either angry or suicidal and almost cost me my life on more than one occasion. To be told that the person you need to be is anything less than human is not an easy pill to swallow. Somehow I managed to survive until I was 32 so I decided to stop being afraid and to start being myself. Look how relieved I am on the very first day of living full time as a woman (yikes):
While it has been the most rewarding thing I've done, it has also been the most difficult - especially financially.
Gender confirmation surgery is not cheap. I have been fighting for it since day one. The insurance through my day job refuses to cover the procedure and the insurance I do have outside of my company is incredibly expensive which in turn makes it difficult to skrimp and save (on top of hormone replacement therapy, laser hair removal, etc). I've tried several fundraising attempts on my own, all to little or no avail. I like to think of myself as an independant person, but at this point if I don't ask for help I'm afraid this surgery will never happen.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to finance everything that is covered under the procedure, including hospital care and recovery stay. Travel expenses will come out of my own pocket as will the down payment to reserve the surgery date. I don't have a time frame of when I'd like to have the money raised, but the sooner the better (of course).
The importance of gender confirmation surgery is incredibly benefical to the mental health and well-being of trans people. I have spent my time living as my true self advocating for trans rights with non-profit work, public speaking and through my comedy and would love to finish my journey so I can focus on helping others in my position as well as on my life, my career and my family. If you can help and donate even the smallest amount, please know you will forever have a place in my heart.
Thank you!
As an added incentive, you can download my first comedy album at my website for free (I do have donations set up through there as well): click here to visit my website
