Volunteer project - Sri Lanka
Hi all! I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka this coming July, based full time in hopsitals and clinics; using my degree in exercise science and skills to treat individuals that have limited access to quality healthcare. I will be working along side physiotherapists and sport science proffessionals, to assist in a variety of specialist cases.
It will be a very hands-on experience, where I will have the potential to get involved in post-operative care as well as work with stroke patients and amputees. Both making a difference in the region and sharpening my skills by submersing myself in a new and diverse environment.
I will be based in Kandy, Sri Lanka's mountain region for 3 weeks, and I need your SUPPORT!
Why is there an issue?
Cost of transport and lack of education mean patients often delay treatment, which can result in chronic inflammation, muscular imbalances, and adhesions.
Meaning when patients do turn up for a checkup, far more work and time is needed to restore their bodies to full health.
This is a large problem as basic lifestyle injuries, when not treated can cause an even greater impact on an individuals quality of life.
Why $4000?
The cost of this trip will be just over $4000, not including flights. However I will not be using 100% of the money raised towards my trip.
A significant portion of my $4K goal will be a direct donation to the health clinic I will be hosted by, to purchase MUCH needed medical supplies that we in Australia take for granted.
ANY donations, large or small will be more that appreciated and I will be repaying all of my donors and sponsors when I return, to show how grateful I am for their generosity.
Crutches, Splints and Taping are basic medical tools that are not common in Clinics across Sri Lanka. Patients need to bring their own materials to their doctor or they simply will have to live wihtout it.
ALL donations, mean that one more patient is able to be provided with the resources they need and deserve.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my trip and the worthy cause that it is for.
I know through your support and generosity, that I will be able to make a large impact in this region, and pave the way for more volunteers just like me.
Lets do this!
