The Anomaly Hair Collective

In October of 2018, our friend, Jordin opened Anomaly Hair Collective (@anomalyhaircollective). What started out as a small business grew into a shared space where stylists could come thrive and hone their skills. Over the past 2 years, he and his colleagues have carved out a much-needed queer space, one that has given our community a safe place where our identity and expression are not going to be judged, but supported and celebrated.
We've all had that experience, walking into a hair salon and being challenged about our request, being told it's not appropriate for our gender. And yet, as we all know, our hair defines us. It signals to others that we are queer, that we are a part of a much larger, loving community. We get our hair cut after a breakup to signal change, a new beginning. We cut and dye our hair in preparation for major life events such as coming out, in preparation for a date, to attend a public event. This is particularly important to the LGBTQIA+ community as our hair is how we express gender and how we navigate our queer identity.
Covid-19 has affected us all in different ways both individually and as a community. Imagine the possibility of losing this critical space? We cannot allow this to happen. When we asked Jordin if we could set up a go fund me account for him, he immediately thought about covering his staff’s income instead of thinking of his own needs.
We love our queer community. Let's show our support.
***Please consider donating to other stylists in the community who haven't received relief and/or have yet to obtain PPE to reopen safely***
