Jorge’s Frankfurt Ironman Challenge 2022

I’m supporting Team Ella and helping them raise awareness of Stillbirth and baby loss in the UK.
Ella was stillborn in November 2010 and since then over £150,000 has been raised in her memory to support Stillbirth awareness and help children and families have a better life.
Here’ more about my challenge & why your support for Team Ella will make it all worthwhile
Name - IronMan Frankfurt - European Championships
What it is - 2.4 mile swim (3.8km), 112 mile cycle (180km), 26.2 mile run (42km) - Max. 15hrs to complete event.
Date - 26 June 2022
I started my fitness journey some 8 years ago now, and it really seems like it wasn’t that long ago. However I was nearly 18stone and heading the wrong way with my health. And shortly after that I met Ella’s dad as part of RSA Gym and my new health kick started…. Little did I know this is where it would lead me. I have now entered and completed several Team Ella events and Triathlons over the years and it felt like that little girl really pushed me over the line several times - hoping the same will happen once again. But ultimately Ella changed my life (arguably saved it)… Now it’s my turn to help.
Over the last few years I have been building myself with the idea of doing something really challenging and scary, bearing in mind I never really considered myself to be a multi-sport person, as I just favoured mostly cycling. Running came in with some influence from a couple of friends… still remember the pain of my first 10k.
I attended an IronMan Triathlon event (spectator) last year and was completely blown away by the sheer determination needed to complete such an astonishing one day event. The thing that most blew me away was that some of the competitors in some cases were recovering from cancer or other conditions, and still committed to training and competing in such a gruelling event. At that moment I thought… what’s my excuse?!?! So here I am.
Few things to note:
- Training is tough on family life. When people talk about balance… there isn’t any! Most spare time you’re training. getting up at 5am to do a 2+hr run, or bike efforts, or 3km swim, isnt fun especially over the winter months.
- I will say I have a very understanding and supportive family. My friends have been really encouraging too and helpful with hints and tips on previous achievements they’ve done.
- Spending up to 5hrs indoors on a bike is like Chinese torture - or perhaps IM torture.
- Nutrition, I’m eating a lot… more than I think I should perhaps. But if it has protein and natural carbs its fair game!
Anyway enough about me. Im basically hoping to raise a few pennies to help and support this wonderful charity that essentially changed my life and I know for a fact it changes so many others. Spare what you can if you can… But anything will be greatly appreciated.
