Jose Esquivel's Funeral Costs

Donation protected
On Tuesday, February 21st, 2017, my family and I lost a wonderful father, husband, and friend. Jose Esquivel, born August 30th, 1970, was only 46 before passing away due to complications from the Influenza virus. Saturday the 18th, we were eating dinner when he started feeling feverish, and by the next day he was full on sick. He went to the emergency room, where they gave him breathing treatments and medication to help combat the flu. His breathing became worse and worse. Come Tuesday my mother and I were with him, casually discussing our events for the day when he noted that at 12pm he was going to take some TamiFlu. After taking the pill, he starggered back- luckily my mom caught him-and we both guided him to lay on the floor. Shortly after this he became unresponsive and he stopped breathing . After several attempts at CPR, and after being worked on by the paramedics for close to half an hour, he passed away.
My dad was both a Marine and an Army service member, serving eighteen years, including a tour in Iraq.
Over the years, he had struggled with PTSD and other physical disabilities, but that didn't stop him from being a strong individual and life of the party in many people's eyes. A couple of weeks prior to his passing, he had started to go to school to learn a trade in car mechanics, hoping to complete the school by next year and work.
Due to my dad's disabilities, the VA would cover some of our finances, and we lived off a single income in a six person house. My mother hasn't been able to work as she's been sick in the past, was hospitalized multiple times this past year, had to go through surgery this past October, had to recover and pay off those bills, and raise my three sisters, ages 10, 9, and 8. With his sudden passing, we have to come up with around $6500 in these upcoming weeks to cover for the funeral costs. This would include cost of the viewing and funeral services, appropriate transportations, and cremation, as were his wishes. All final expenses will be handled by my mother and myself.
Jose was loved and revered by many. To my friends, he was like family-a second dad- who would go out of his way to laugh and make stupid jokes with them, and go on about the games he played on his phone. To my mom's friends, he was a wonderful man of God, with a great sense of humor, who walked down the path of righteousness. To his friends, he was the Devil Dog, a great leader, a courageous soldier, a wisecracking funny guy, and the biggest Punisher fan they'd know. To my family and I, he was a provider, a caregiver, a lover, a wonderful father to his four kids, and a husband of 20 years  to his loving wife. We are deeply saddened at the sudden and unexpected passing of such a strong-willed man, and my family and I would like to extend our gratitude to all those who have helped us through this extremely tough time these past couple of days.
