Jose Tamayo’s Medical Assistance

Hello everyone,

THANK YOU for taking the time to read about my father Jose Tamayo. An airforce veteran, turned social advocate helping the underserved through Santa Rosa, turned baker, turned pest control technician and most recently grandfather. My father is a man of many trades. And now he will be going through the biggest surgery of his life.

As many of you know my father was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease in 2021. In April 2022 he had a peritoneal dialysis catheter placed - His kidneys have failed and now require a machine to filter his blood for him. He uses the machine every night and in order for him to get onto the kidney transplant list he was required to have several tests done. One of which was called a stress test. When he failed it they referred him to have a procedure done called a cardiac catheterization. This yielded results that will forever change my father.

On October 5, 2022 my dad is scheduled to have triple bypass surgery. Three out of his four main arteries that supply blood to his heart are 90 to 100% occluded. Meaning blood is not flowing adequately to his heart muscle. This must be taken care of in order for him to live a healthier life and in order for him to continue the process of being placed on a kidney transplant list. The recovery for the surgery is anywhere from 3 to 6 months with a hospitalization anywhere from 8-25 days.

My father has always taken pride in helping and caring for others before himself. He would give his last $20 if that meant someone could put food on their table. He is a loving husband, father and grandfather who needs our support and love. Which ever way that may come please keep my father in your prayers.

I am hoping to raise money for my mother to stay down in San Francisco with him. Since the pandemic, visitor restrictions are in place in the hospital. Also to help pay for medical expenses and bills while she care-takes for my dad. Thank you all so much for all the support, text messages and phone calls. - Samantha
