Muchas gracias,

Josemith Bermudez.

Hello, My name is Josemith Bermudez and over the last 8 years, I’ve been living with cancer.

At 36 years old, I was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer in October of 2016. I will never be able to explain just how cruel this all feels. Up until now, I’d always enjoyed a perfect bill of health. That is, until I was negligently operated on for what was believed to be an “ovarian cyst.” Upon receiving the results of my biopsy, they were unexpected to say the least: Stage IV, Metastatic Serous Papillary Carcinoma

Unfortunately, after the surgery, the necessary medical provisions to treat the lesion were not taken, and as a result, my body experienced rapid deterioration over a matter of days. My lungs filled with fluid. I developed ascitis and experienced signficant intestinal obstruction requiring emergency medical intervention and accompanying exploratory surgery. It was in the latter procedure that they discovered the lesion, which had since undergone significant growth and come to impair organ function. I was forced to make a difficult decision, undergoing a procedure called an Ileostomia, followed by a full cycle of chemotherapy, in order to stay alive.

While my days have had their fair share of pain and obstacles, fortunately my body has responded positively to this intervention. I am entering my fifth round of treatment, and now require 17 rounds of a different kind of chemotherapy, Avastin 400mg, delivered in 21-day cycles. Unfortunately this treatment is very expensive and isn’t available in Venezuela. Aside from this, the effectiveness of this treatment is very time-sensitive, so as to prevent my relapse and attain a stable remission. Aside from a great deal of strength, I still require two surgical interventions as part of the required treatment. With all of this in mind, I ask for your help.

These treatment interventions I’ve just mentioned are estimated to cost approximately $89,000.00. These funds would cover the rounds of Avastin deemed essential to my recovery and revision. This is what’s needed to close this chapter of my life.

While all of these things unfold around me, I have been blessed as mother to my beloved Juan Cristobal, who’s just turned 7. The pain and anguish he feels due to the state of my health and its accompanying obstacles causes me great pain. I cannot fail him. I cannot leave him.

I am very desperate for any help that you can lend. Anything you could find it in yourself to give would mean the world to my family and I.

Thank you,

Josemith Bermudez.
