Joseph Sousa's 2024 Boston Marathon Fundraiser

Hello, my name is Joe Sousa, and I'm a senior at Dexter Southfield high school with plans to attend Tulane University next semester. This fall, I made the commitment to run the Boston Marathon, a 26.2 race starting in Hopkinton spanning all the way to the Back Bay, in the heart of Boston. My final year of high school has been filled with many early mornings and late nights putting miles down towards my goal, and I've loved every second of the journey.

Along with this, I am absolutely honored and humbled to be able to dedicate my marathon to fundraising for the Preston Settles Memorial Fund which focuses on diagnosing and caring for people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Preston Settles was a wonderful friend who unfortunately passed away at the age of 15 following a 22-day battle in the hospital after collapsing during a high school basketball game. He was a smart, funny kid who had the rare ability to become friends with anyone he met with ease.

While The Preston Settles Memorial Fund is not an official charity of the Boston Marathon, together with other friends of Preston, we are hoping to put our marathon entries toward an important cause and reach a goal of raising $5,000 in Preston's memory.
