In the early morning of Friday, February 24 2023, my father in law, Joe, had left for work as he did for many years. He has proudly served as a clerk at the United States Post office for the past 38 years. Leaving the love of his life, Darlene, and their three cats, which she cherished, safe at home. Little did he know that a roaring fire would break out shortly after his departure in their Islip NY home. Joe would return a few hours later to a scene no one should ever have to walk into. A scene from a horror movie and reality no one could have imagined possible. The strong winds that morning helped to feed that fire very fast and unfortunately there would be no survivors. Not only did this man lose every single thing he owned, down to his under drawers. But we lost the most important and irreplaceable person within our life. A wife, a mother, a mother in law, a grandmother, a friend, a neighbor, the smiling face in the grocery store, a truly one of a kind soul that has been taken away from us too soon! My mother in law was truly a saint, an Angel on this Earth, and lived every single day with a tremendously giving heart.
Right now we are still trying to find answers to the many questions we have. Joe and Darlene were all each other had to care for after suddenly losing their youngest son Adam a few years back and still struggle with that heartache to this very day. Joe, a devoted Christian and member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, has been turning to God for comfort and strength in this (again) devastating time. I wish no one this type of pain. It’s torturous. However, In Darlenes honor, I was hoping we could come together and try to give back a fraction of what she has given throughout the years. Her love goes unmatched. Joe is currently displaced and without any home essentials or even clothes. Any donations or even prayers would be so greatly appreciated to help this man try to find a way to begin building back what is left of his broken life.
