Joseph's Freshman Year at Albany State University

Joseph Kendrick is going to college!

He is the son of the late Sharifa Ife Brown, grandson of Otis “Dickey” and Bernice Brown, and great-grandson of James and Trennie Brown.

Joseph is an exceptional young man. At 5 years of age, Joseph was diagnosed with leukemia, and through all adversity, he prevailed and is now living cancer free. Joseph continued to triumph after the death of his mother in 2015 and acted as a support to his younger sister Sabirah while living with their grandmother, Bernice Brown.

Excelling in his high school studies, Joseph learned about Albany State University in Georgia during a college fair at his high school. He took the initiative to engage the college admissions counselors and worked with the school to apply to a program designated to support college freshman with exonerating circumstances.

Joseph enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, and lifting weights. He will major in Nursing and hopes to work as a pediatric nurse so that he can return the support that was given to him during his battle with cancer.

He was awarded a scholarship that will be disseminated evenly throughout his four-year degree program. But that scholarship will not cover all his expenses.

Albany is 200 miles away from Atlanta so he will live on campus and will have other expenses not covered by the scholarship and associated with being on his own.
