Help Jo Finish College
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jo Parks and I am a Black person living in the south. I had a full ride to college in 2018, but had several mental health issues that were not taken seriously by the very few counselors available at the school. I failed a semester and without warning I lost one of my biggest scholarships. I was left scrambling and almost homeless with $11,000 of debt, and for someone who has no generational wealth and no family financial support, this is almost insurmountable. I sold my plasma and stole food to survive during this time. Since then I have made leaps and bounds to help and better myself, while stuck in horribly understaffed childcare jobs that took everything out of me. I have only managed to save $440 after MONTHS of work to try and pay off school. I cannot to back to school unless I pay this debt off. I cannot pay this debt off without going to school because childcare jobs (the only thing I’m qualified in) won’t pay me more than $9.50 if I don’t have a degree, which I cannot live off of much less pay off debt. I deserve the opportunity to go back to school and try again, and I can’t do it without help. Please, if you have expendable income, please consider donating to me so I can go back to school and become a special needs teacher in a field sorely needing Black advocates. Thank you.
