Josh Bayer's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Josh has been in the ICU since Sunday, September 22 as the result of an accident. For many of you who have been following his Caring Bridge website (linked below), you are well aware of his condition, his progress, and the challenge that lays ahead of him as he begins his road to recovery. Josh suffered fractures to both wrists, vertebrae T5-T8, facial trauma, and a Traumatic Brain Injury to the frontal lobe of his brain that required a craniotomy and fluid drain placements. I think there is power in numbers, so I certainly believe that the positive vibes, good thoughts, and prayers have all been raised up.  He's well on his way to recovery, moving his limbs and responding to commands (9/26)!

Josh was first my coworker, then someone I socialized with which then quickly evolved to friendship, and then a ski partner. We went on a ski trip last season for a weekend together and you truly get to know someone when they are all you get to visit with for three days driving, on ski lifts, eating with and out exploring. He’s pretty laid back about the experience, I’m just happy he managed to deal with me for three whole days. We had plans to ski together again this upcoming season, plans that have been pushed back. Don’t worry Josh, we’ll get you back on two skis eventually!

The goal may seem ambitious, yet, I think it is reachable. I chose to raise $26,200 in honor of the 26.2 mile race Josh had been training to run. For those of you who don’t know, Josh ran the TC Marathon last year, even telling myself and many of our friends that he neglected to train and even enjoyed his time with some friends a couple of days before the big event. This year, Josh was running, he was training, he had a goal set, and mine was simply to just keep up with him, maybe even finish slightly before. Nonetheless, competitive nature aside, it hurts knowing that we won’t be able to see each other at the finish line. Just as ambitious as Josh’s goal to run purely because he wanted to, is this goal set.

We may not always be able to be physically available for Josh as he recovers. It takes a village and a bit of God’s mercy and strength when it comes to caring for another person. This is set so Josh can see the lives he’s touched and our investment in him, to show him the kindness of strangers who donate on his behalf, to show him that he’s got a whole crowd of people cheering him on and supporting him where they are able. Your donation will go towards medical expenses, any equipment or lifestyle accommodations Josh may need to incorporate into his daily living activities, or any other fees associated with his recovery process.

Josh is ambitious, funny, light-hearted, and a connoisseur of sorts. What has happened to Josh was an accident, totally unexpected, and heartbreaking, so let’s all do our best to get him back on his feet, back to chasing those big goals he’s got in mind.

Please comment, share, donate, post pictures, pray, and think of Josh. I will be keeping a log of donations on behalf of Josh and his family. If you wish to donate anonymously but would still like a thank you card, please reach out and contact me.
