Dear Friends of Josh,
It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our dear friend and brother, Joshua Flaherty, at 4:30pm on July 7, 2019. The legacy of Josh will always be remembered for his love, respect, loyalty, huge heart, constant smile, part-time mullet, and positive outlook on the challenges of life. Josh enriched all of our lives in different ways as he was a man of various capacities (and nick names). An active person who lived a full life of great experiences during his time and always made a friend or two along the way. Josh may have left this world at the very young age of 35, but we must all remember that he is now pain free and at absolute peace - the very existence he struggled to find towards the end of life.
Josh always made it his priority to be the patriarch of his family by taking care of and being responsible for his mother, brothers and sister. Given that, he still dedicated an immense amount of time and love to his friends and brothers of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Josh always fought for the underdog and would give you the shirt off his back and his last dollar when he probably needed it most. He always put himself before others, which made him happy and fulfilled his life. To Josh life was about having fun, taking care of people he loved and respected, and building the character of the pledge classes below him, while teaching the true meaning of friendship and mental toughness. Being from Utah Josh will always be a Cowboy in spirit, even living the life on a ranch in Nevada in his late 20’s.
Josh's service is at 11:00am on August 3rd at the South Reno Baptist Church located at 6780 S. McCarran Blvd., Reno, NV 89509. We think the least we can all do right now is assist with the financial burdens to ensure Josh rests comfortably. We have setup a GoFundMe page in the honor of Josh’s life. All proceeds go to Josh’s family and/or a charity of their choice. Thank you in advance for your participation in helping memorialize the life and on-going spirit of our brother who will live within each of us.
So far, many of you are planning to attend his service and we welcome all to come celebrate his memory. We are flying from Los Angeles to Reno on Friday 8/2, staying at the PepperMill Resort and returning the evening of Saturday 8/3. We look forward to reconnecting with you and honor Josh.
As friends of Josh, we have created a scholarship fund at USC and will email each of you details of the scholarship once it is funded through this raise. Gofundme will send these funds to Tom Maloof so that it can be split accordingly between the scholarship and a member of the Flaherty family.
Sincerely and Fight On,
