Full-time GB Judo Player Looking Towards 2024 -
My name is Josh Giles and I’m a full-time GB Judo athlete living and training away from home at the British Judo Centre of Excellence. Beginning my journey aged 5 at Coventry Judo Club, my ultimate aim has always been to win a medal at the Olympic Games.
Last year I represented GB at both the European and World Junior Championships in the -60kg division after winning a European cup bronze medal in Paks, Hungary. As a junior I also became the senior British Champion in 2018 and I will soon be making my debut as a senior athlete on the European circuit. With the Paris 2024 cycle fast approaching, 2020 will hopefully see me accomplish even more.
My goal this year is to qualify for the U23 European Championships in November by winning a European cup/open medal. For this to be achievable I need to gain a lot more exposure at these events and at high-level training camps. However, being a non-funded athlete, I don’t currently have the funds to do so. My living costs aren’t covered by the BJA and it has meant I have little-to-no spare money to spend on developing my Judo despite having a part-time job. All contributions will help me to self-fund to multiple competitions across Europe and see me be the best athlete I can be – on and off the mat.
I have been knocking on the door of success for some years now and I think having more opportunities to gain experience will be the key to open it; so any help from you will always be kindly appreciated.
Thank you,
