Josh’s Leeds Marathon for Jigsaw

Hi there, my name is Josh Freeman and on 12th May I will be running the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon and raising funds for Jigsaw Children’s Hospice based in Carlisle.

Jigsaw provides care for children and young adults with life limiting illnesses requiring respite, short breaks, end of life care and pre and post bereavement support.

They have a highly skilled multi-disciplinary medical team to enable children and young adults with the most complex health needs to be cared for in a unique environment which supports their individualised needs, all free of charge for those who need it.

One of the main reasons for choosing this charity is for the help and care provided to Ella Gale and her family.

Ella is a 10 year-old young lady who has a rare brain condition called Lissencephaly. Along with her life limiting disability she also suffers from epilepsy.

This affects her by causing high muscle tone through her whole body, making it a fight to try do basic human needs e.g Feeding, dressing, personal hygiene etc… Ella needs round the clock care to ensure she is happy, comfortable & pain free.

Jigsaw helps families like Ella’s who have children with life limiting disabilities that very rarely manage to get respite due to their child’s medical needs being so complex.

Ella’s parents, Hayleigh and Rob, said the following about Jigsaw:

Jigsaw relies on the help and support provided by the local community to offer the highest quality care to those needing it. The local NHS trust provides around 25% of their running costs, with the remaining 75% coming from the generosity and efforts of supporters in the local area and beyond through fundraising.
