Joshua Atkins's Handicap Equipment Fund
Donation protected
Good Day,
My name is Joshua Atkins, I am 41 years old and would like to tell you my story. I am suffering from extreme Venous Stasis which results in open ulcers from my knees down to my ankles. This condition is extremely painful constantly and results in me having no mobility besides using a wheelchair to go to the doctors. After over 5 years of surgeries and constant wound care and a diagnosis that I will have this condition for the rest of my life, the decision has been made to amputate both legs above the knees on March 25th.
This will be my second major surgery in the past two years with stomach and groin reconstruction surgery to eliminate having a surgically placed catheter in for over a year having the catheter replaced under sedation every 4 - 5 weeks.
As a young man I reached a weight of over 550+lbs and now currently weigh around 220lbs. I lost the weight over a few years with a change of eating habits and drinking no calories along with better management of my diabetes with help from my physician.
The reason I am starting this GoFundMe is to assist myself and my family in purchasing handicapped equipment I will need and a major renovation to my home to make it handicap accessible when I return home. I also ask for your prayers for me, my family, and the surgeons.
I know this will be a challenge but I am ready to be free from pain and start a new chapter in my life. Thanks again four your support.
Blessings,
Joshua Atkins
