Joshua Serrano
Don protégé
Hello my name is Shandelle Gomez. My family and I are setting up a GoFundMe for my brother Joshua A. Serrano.
On October 15, 2023 at approximately 2:40am my brother Joshua Serrano was a victim of a reckless drunk driver accident. Him and his friend had slowed down as they were approaching a motorcycle accident that had just happened.
It was at that time that the drunk driver hit them at full force causing extremely life threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the driver in the vehicle my brother was in succumbed to his injuries, and by the grace of God my brother was transported in critical condition. Although, he survived he will be in for a lifetime of problems. He is in the hospital undergoing extensive medical treatment for his condition. He suffered an Atlanto Occipital Dislocation (internal decapitation, where all the ligaments connecting the spine to the skull were severed). He has rib fractures and a hematoma in his lung and spine and is unable to breathe on his own. The doctors say he will most likely never have full range of motion of his neck and will be paralyzed from the neck down. He is in for months of hospitalization and physical therapy after.
Message from mom(Carolina Gomez):
My son had worked so hard to get to what he has become a Registered Nurse and is an employee at Providence Memorial. Joshua earned his Bachelor’s from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center on December of 2022 and started working at providence in the ICU in March 2023.
In efforts in getting started, we were informed that Josh does not qualify for long term benefits because he had not worked a full year. It breaks my heart to think about the pain and suffering he's going through, and the fact that his future has been irreparably altered by someone else's thoughtless actions. We ask that you share his story with your friends and family, and help us raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving. Your support means the world to us, and we appreciate any help you can offer, whether it is monetary or just by sharing.
*Edit* Josh had surgery on Wednesday October 18, 2023 and it was successful with no complications, we were told if he is unable to walk at all he would have to go to Austin, Tx for therapy we are extending the amount because this is going to be very costly. Thank you to everyone who has already donated words can not express how grateful we are ❤️
Edit #2 My son Joshua A.
