Josue's Kidney Transplant Journey
After waiting 5 1/2 years the wait is finally over! Josue has officially had his kidney transplant. This journey has been hard, exhausting, frustrating, tiresome, but it has also taught us a lot about each other and the unconditional love I have for my husband. I have seen him suffer great pain, sleepless nights, days where he could not stop throwing up, pain in his legs, swelling in his body, countless surgeries, infections, and many more hardships but through it all, he always remained faithful that God's perfect time would come. Josue always had such a positive attitude and hardly ever complained, of course, he had days where he was sad, depressed, and wanted it all to be over but he always jumped back to his positive outlook. For years we tried to get him active on the transplant list but there was always something wrong with insurance, or one of his levels, or he needed surgery, it was always something.
On August 21, 2020, we met with his kidney team one more time, and a week later got the call he was officially active not he list! We couldn't believe it, it almost didn't feel real to us. Well, little did we know a week and a half later on September 10, 2020, Josue received a call that they found him a match and he was going to have a kidney transplant that day. He facetimed me and was so excited he just couldn't contain it. I was freaking out, started packing for the hospital, felt like I was going to faint, could not stop crying, just a rollercoaster of emotions because not only was the day finally here but from the day we met with his transplant team, to getting the call that he was active, then receiving the call that they found a match it all happened so quick! Today, September 11, 2020, he is now recovering and doing well. Last night his breathing was low and his blood pressure was as well but today he is no longer needing help from the oxygen tank, and his blood pressure is normalizing. We give God all the glory, I can't stress enough how much his timing is so perfect.
To the WHY we are fundraising. Josue will be off work for at least 3 months so he can recover. During the first 1-2 months, he will be going to the doctor 3 times a week and daily will be on about 20 pills a day, there are 3 main pills that will help his body not reject his kidney. These pills without insurance can range up to 10k a month. We are thankful Josue has insurance but even with insurance, we are looking at about $1,500-$3,000 for medication cost a month. Your donations will go towards Josue's transplant recovery which includes anything from care, medical bills due to transplant and aftercare, premiums, etc but the main use will be for his medications. He will be on medication for the rest of his life but the hope is that after about six months the number of pills he needs daily will decrease. We want to make this as transparent as possible and we are here to answer any question not only about what your donation will go towards but anything regarding his transplant journey.
I don't think we can ever express the gratitude towards every single one of you who has called, texted, but above all prayed for us. We feel every ounce of love and prayers. We are blessed beyond words with the support we have not only received now but since the day we found out about his kidney failure. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love,
The Perez family
