Journey for Jackson

Hi there, my name is Christina Martens. I am starting this fundraiser to help a family that has been very dear to me. Please if you have the time read, share and help if you can. God Bless
The John Family
Each one of us has a journey ahead. There is no forewarning of what will be, but some will be more difficult than others. Jackson, the oldest son of Scott and Laurie John, with his family by his side, are relentlessly seeking healing and recovery from a recent accident causing a spinal cord injury and resulting in paralysis.
It's hard to comprehend the magnitude of how a few seconds in time can drastically change so many lives. The things that we take for granted each day, can be stripped away in an instant. Imagine how this has affected this entire family and the changes they have had to make. It is devasting, yet inspiring at the same time, to see how hard they are working and not giving up in the pursuit for recovery.
Unfortunately, insurances do not cover extended therapies or equipment that can greatly benefit him. An estimated lifetime cost for a tetraplegic in their 20’s is $4,729,788. Our hope is to put our efforts together as a community and create a network with others we know outside our community to assist Jackson and his family with ongoing out of pocket expenses.
Jackson is currently in therapy at The Motion Project in Buffalo. This therapy is uniquely designed to work on “what is NOT working” with people who have Spinal cord injuries. This therapy develops Neuroplasticity (the body’s ability to heal and create new nerve pathways around the injured spinal cord site, reconnecting nerve signals to regain function by exercising those body parts repeatedly while also using mental imagery of those movements and connections). Neuroplasticity scientifically proves that the body has the ability to heal itself. Nerve repair is one of the slowest healing processes we have in our bodies. With the power of the Divine and the resilience of the human spirit forging ahead with determination, perseverance and not taking NO for an answer, people do incredible things, and we know that Jackson will be one of them.
A mechanical standing wheelchair would give Jackson the ability to stand during the day to help with bone density, circulation, organ function and overall health and recovery. Additionally, countless hours have been spent researching the latest stem cell therapy. Gaining access to the best stem cell therapies would require out of country travel as the FDA has many limitations on these procedures in the US at this time.
All of this comes with a price tag this is unconceivable and not covered by insurance of any kind. We can make a difference if we all join together!!! If your heart is open to contributing, please click the Go Fund link below, and please pass this message on. Thank you to those who have already contributed and helped in so many ways. With the deepest appreciation and gratitude, we ask for continued prayers for healing and recovery for this family.
