Joy & Becky create a family
Donation protected
In 2020, Joy and I began the process of trying to have a baby. This required one surgery, four IUIs, 4.5 IVF cycles for me, and 2 rounds of IVF for Joy. I lost track of how many needles and shots I had after 125. We maxed out our insurance coverage. The donors and much of the medications needed were not included. During both of our last IVF cycles, we did testing and found out that none of our embryos were viable. At that point, we knew we would never have our own biologic children. This news, and this whole process, has been extremely emotional. We needed to take a little time off and figure out what, if anything, we might do next. Now, we are looking to move forward using an egg donor, which would have a higher chance of success. This process is very costly and all out of pocket (or in our case, having to get a loan). We can only do this once, with no guarantee of success. Neither of us is great about asking for help, and we realize that this is a lot, but any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
What is involved:
Pre-cycle fees: Oocyte donor ($7,875)
Donor medications for cycle ($5,000-$6,000+)
Oocyte retrieval- donor ($7,085)
Fertilization ($3,450)
Embryo transfer ($2,100)
Total= $25,510
Not included is PGT (pre-implementation genetic testing). This determines if the embryos are even viable for transfer, and is an optional test ($4,500).
