Joy of weaving

Joy of weaving is a project that anyone can join. (Please scoll down for the German version)
It is ongoing and everlasting!
Because of the corona crisis, som trips not take place for now. Nonetheless, I will continue to make sure that old, used items are transformed into art on site and I appreciate your support!

I collect worn clothes and transform them into art. Did you know that you could dress all the people in the world three times with all the clothes that are currently on our planet? And that clothing is the commodity with the shortest lifespan?
Most of the clothes we put in recycling boxes are transported as garbage to so-called third world countries and a large part of it is burned there. Very few are worn again or processed into new textiles. Due to the cheap production under the worst working conditions the mountain of clothes grows immensely. I do not want that we throw away worn out clothes (great, of course, when you're wearing used clothes again) any more, but turn them into colorful art. In order to do so, I've learned various weaving techniques that are simple and can be done anywhere.

I need your help, so that I can carry this message and know-how to all corners of the world! I am invited as an artist on many platforms and festivals worldwide. Unfortunately, these organizations (non profit) have no way to support me financially.

I can use these platforms to spread my message, present my project and collect locally worn clothes and make art objects out of them.
The most important thing to me is to teach people how to make something beautiful, colorful and useful from the worn out clothes. That's why I want to teach the techniques to everibody worldwide.

And it goes on and on. 2020 I already have been in Chicago at the wonderful project: what remains of Joseph Raven and Ieke Trinks, where the artists worked with relics and left over of other performance artists, so to say art recycling! Ofcourse I used textile left over to weave them together to a new installation!
Due to the pandemic measures, I stayed in Bavaria in 2021 and 2022. Nevertheless, I was able to reach many people and show them the techniques so that they could become active themselves. A very special workshop was the one in which we created new workpieces together from the clothes of people who were very dear to us, who had already passed away. Now the garments are transformed, reminiscent of loved ones and stay close to us and are of use. Another great project was TUWAS Tipi, in which many women woven a tipi together and told touching, very personal stories.

Of course, I would like you not to throw away all your clothes when you do not need them any more, but either start weaving and knotting or send me your colorful t-shirts, so I can make the world a little bit more colorful, happier and cleaner.

Es findet laufend statt und geht für immer weiter!
Wegen der Coronakrise werden die nächsten Reisen wohl erst mal nicht stattfinden. Nichtsdestotrotz werde ich weiterhin vor Ort dafür sorgen, dass sich Altes, Gebrauchtes in Kunst verwandelt und freue mich über eure Unterstützung!

Ich sammle getragene Kleidung und transformiere sie zu Kunst. Wusstet ihr, dass man mit der momentan auf unserem Planeten existierenden Kleidung die Menschheit dreimal einkleiden kann? Und dass Kleidung der kurzlebigste Gebrauchsgegenstand ist?
Die meiste Kleidung, die wir mit gutem Gewissen in Recyclingboxen stecken wird als Müll in sogenannte dritte Weltländer transportiert. Das wenigste wird wieder getragen oder zu neuen Textilien verarbeitet. Durch die Billigproduktion unter mieseste Arbeitsbedingungen wächst der Kleiderberg ins Unermessliche. Ich möchte, dass wir die überschüssigen Kleider nicht mehr wegwerfen (super natürlich, wenn ihr gebrauchte Kleidung tragt) sondern direkt in Kunst verwandeln. Um das tun zu können habe ich mir verschiedene Webtechniken, die ganz einfach und überall durchzuführen sind, beigebracht. 

Damit ich diese Botschaft und das Knowhow in alle Ecken der Welt tragen kann, brauche ich eure Hilfe. Ich bin als Künstlerin auf viele Plattformen und Festivals weltweit eingeladen. Leider haben diese Organisationen (non profit) aber keine Möglichkeiten, mich dafür zu bezahlen. Ich kann diese Platformen nutzen meine Nachricht zu verbreiten, mein Projekt vorzustellen und direkt vor Ort abgetragene Kleidung einsammeln und Kunstobjekte daraus machen.

Am wichtigsten aber ist mir, dass ich den Menschen die Fähigkeit vermittle, selbst aus den abgetragenen Kleidungsstücken etwas Schönes, Buntes und Nützliches herzustellen. Daher vermittle ich jeder/m weltweit diese Techniken.
Der Trip nach Mexiko und USA war ein Riesen- Erfolg! Ich konnte bei vielen Menschen die Aufmerksamkeit für die Weiterverwertung von textilem Müll wecken und die Technik dieser simplen Handarbeit vermitteln. Danke Euch!
Das Projekt  ging weiter: nächster Halt war Schweden und auch in München gab es eine Präsentation der bisherigen Ergebnisse vom 12.-15. September 2019 auf dem Kreativquartier.
Und es geht weiter. 2020 war ich  bereits in Chicago auf dem ausgezeichneten Projekt von Joseph Raven und Ieke Trins: "what remains", bei dem KünstlerInnen mit Relikten von Performances andere Künstler gearbeitet haben. Natürlich habe ich textile Überbleibsel verwebt und eine neue Installation daraus gemacht. Sozusagen Kunstrecycling!

Auf Grund der Maßnahmen der Pandemie bin ich in 2021 und 2022 in Bayern geblieben. Trotzdem konnte ich viele Menschen erreichen und ihnen die Techniken zeigen, so dass sie selbst aktiv werden konnten. Ein ganz besonderer Workshop war der, indem wir gemeinsam aus Kleidung von uns sehr lieben Menschen, die bereits verstorben sind, neue Werkstücke geschaffen haben. Jetzt sind die Kleidungsstücke transformiert, erinnern an die geliebten Menschen und sind in unserer Nähe und unserem Gebrauch. Ein weiteres tolles Projekt war TUWAS Tipi, indem viele Frauen gemeinsam ein Tipi gewebt haben und dabei berührende sehr persönliche Geschichten erzählt haben.

Natürlich möchte ich am liebsten, dass ihr alle eure Kleidung nicht wegschmeißt, wenn ihr sie nicht mehr braucht, sondern entweder selbst anfangt zu weben und zu knüpfen oder mir die bunten T Shirts schickt, so dass ich für euch und für andere die Welt ein bisschen bunter und sauberer machen kann.
