Joy's Cancer Fight

After years of caring for others during their most vunerable and weak moments as a nurse, my mom is now in the need of the same love and support. In the blink of an eye my mom went from healthy and happy to battling stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. Shortly before Christmas my mom received the news that she must undergo a full hysterectomy and a debulking procedure to remove these highly invasive tumors.
On January 3rd, my mom went into Memorial Sloan Kettering for surgery. The surgery was a "success" in that they were able to remove her tumors but since they also found cancerous tissue in her lymph nodes, aggressive chemotherapy was needed. My mother began her chemo in early February and will be in treatment until June. After a very intense surgery, a long recovery, a scary prognosis of a 20% survival rate, and facing over 18 weeks of chemo, my mom is still remaining hopeful and positive.
Unfortunately, the surgery and chemo have made it impossible for my mom to return to work during this journey. She has started receiving disability benefits but this barely pays the mortgage and utilities. Only a few weeks into her chemo and her medical bills are pilling to upwards of $5,000 and climbing. On top of the increasing medical expenses, my mom's employer notified her that her postion is terminated, as well as, her medical insurance. My mom is left without a job and without healthcare during this crucial and trying time. The price of private health insurance is staggering and will not be covered by the minimal support provided by disability.
With months left to go in treatment, my mom is asking for the first time in her life, for support from others. Any amount will help my mom sustain the roof over her head during this long fight with cancer. She is hopeful to one day be a cancer survivor and be able to return to doing what she loves, helping others.
