Help with legal fees

Hello everyone; my name is Jana Nyland. Recently my son has experienced a hate crime (racism, discrimination) and assault by his daycare provider.

I will keep this as straightforward as possible to prevent any form of misunderstanding. My 19-month-old son's daycare provider cut his hair (without my permission), has made racist and discriminatory comments to our cultural values, and over-stepped boundaries. My family is of Metis ancestry. Our hair is a symbol of our strength, heritage, and family culture. She took that away from him. Her reasoning for cutting his hair was, and I quote, "I do not like long hair on boys, and he should not have long hair even if he is Native." She proceeded to comment, "Native culture will destory your son" and "I am tired of Native peoples. There will be no more registration for Native people in my daycare". I immediately removed my son from her care and went to the police to file a report. They filed the information as a hate crime. She has also been reported to the Ministry of Education, Child Protection Services, and Child's Advocate.

Furthermore, this GoFundMe campaign is specifically for the base amount necessary for me to retain the legal services required to begin opening a lawsuit for my son. The funds raised will allow me to seek justice for my son, sue his daycare provider (in hopes she will be shut down), and charge her with assault. When it comes to cutting someone's hair without permission, you need to understand you need to be the legal parent or guardian, and cutting or damaging a child's hair without permission is considered assault under the court of law.

Currently, Bajwa's Childcare is being investigated, and we are looking into pressing charges which may lead to further consequences of her actions.

The current amount I am listing is 5,000 for the initial fee for the lawyers and some supplimentary income due to loss of childcare/being unable to work. I will also be doing my best to pay out of my pocket to ensure that others do not have to contribute more than necessary. However, I am a single mother, and lawyer fees are costly. The sooner this goal can be met, the better.

As I do not have the financial means to retain these legal services on my own, I’m requesting any assistance that can be procured. Any support is greatly appreciated, and I will be glad to update you with answers to any questions you might have.
