Friends and Family,
Edited to add: For those of you that don't know, our son Walker suffered a massive Left MCA stroke at birth which caused almost his entire left side of his brain to die. If an adult were to have one of these, they would be lucky to survive. At just 2 days old, he proceeded to have seizures and apneic episodes. He had a 2 week NICU stay and we were told many tasks would be difficult for him, if even happen.
Here we are today: Walker is doing unbelievable. He has proven all doctors wrong. He has impressed every single person he meets. Every doctor, therapist, early interventionist, etc has seen tremendous growth in him. But the road is not over.
Brandon and I have never been people to ask for help. The two of us have always been extremely independent since before we can remember.
Unfortunately, we have come to the realization that even though we were prepared more than ever for a child, the financial burden of Walker's arrival and start to life has taken a huge toll on our living.
I, Allie, have been out of work on FMLA since June and luckily have been paid up until recently. I will only miss a few paychecks for weeks not worked. I return to work in November.
Brandon has been working tirelessly in between appointments, family gatherings, weddings, etc. He has lost pay in order to be present at Walker's major visits. He has been an amazing and supportive husband, best friend and most importantly, father.
Walker's medical bills and our loss of pay is adding up and causing stress. Walker continues to need PT, GI and Speech Therapy. These appointments will continue for the foreseeable future. He also still sees his neurologist at Elliot Hospital and Children's Hospital and our insurance is claiming his EEG's are not "medically necessary" and charging us full cost. We will be fighting this!!!
Of course, my medical deductible was reached before we had Walker but reset on July 1st. So that has not helped the situation at all. Not everything during his NICU stay was covered.
Our friends and family have helped already in so many ways- especially through thoughts and prayers as well as some financially. We absolutely HATE asking for help. It honestly makes us cringe. However, we are in a bind.
Brandon continues to work overtime and I will be working the after school program on top of teaching but it is just not enough to catch up right now.
If you can make a donation, no matter how small, any bit helps. It will truly allow us to focus on our family and taking care of Walker.
We appreciate all the love and prayers everyone has given our family. We can't say THANK YOU enough.
Love,
The Wade's
