STEM Futures: Investing in the Next Generation
Tax deductible
Our Fundraiser STEAM Futures: Investing in the Next Generation, is an opportunity to support the Harlem Gallery of Science Mentoring Program, a community-based initiative aimed at engaging youth in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The HGS Mentoring Program provides middle or high-school-aged youth in Harlem, Upper Manhattan & South Bronx with college mentors of similar backgrounds studying STEAM who can serve as role models. In addition, HGS connects mentees to other community group programs to provide them with support and access to resources.
Through weekly curated conversations, monthly cohort events, STEAM kits, and mindfulness training, our program helps students build personal, academic, and professional development skills while fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Meet Jaylen: a senior at Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem. After four years in the HGS Mentoring Program, Jaylen shares that he's learned to step out of his comfort zone and try new things. His mentor encouraged him to take advantage of every opportunity, which led him to a research internship and opened up new areas of interest in computer science. He has been accepted to St. Lawrence University with a full scholarship.
Jaylen's ultimate goal is to leave a lasting legacy by creating generational wealth and security for his family.
