On Sunday, 9/11/2022, our Sofia Bella Grasso suffered a spontaneous brain bleed because of an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation). Sofia was transported by helicopter from St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado in the early morning hours of 9/12/22 after having emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on the left side of her brain.

As I write this, Sofia Bella is currently in the Pediatric ICU at Children’s Hospital Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora, Colorado.

Sofia Bella is an amazing, empowered 16-year-old young lady. She is adventurous, confident, humorous, and caring. Sofia is loved by her friends who enjoy how she makes them laugh. We are all lucky to have Sofia in our lives. We know Sofia wants to get back to her family and friends. Right now, Sofia needs our help.

Sofia has a long road ahead of her, but she is a fighter. We have no doubt she will face this challenge with the same courage and effort she has given to all her other endeavors whether that be as a varsity volleyball player, her schoolwork, or other parts of her life.

Sofia, Chris (Dad), Jolene (Mom), Brody (Little Brother) and the rest of her family will do their part and fight physically and emotionally, but the family will also need help financially in meeting deductibles, rehabilitation expenses, and other incidentals the family will incur while supporting Sofia in her recovery.
