SJP Hockey fundraiser for Lieutenant Derek Hines
Tax deductible
Hello SJP Hockey Families, Friends and supporters. Each year, for the past 14 years, the SJP Varsity Hockey Team raises funds to support the 1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund
For those of you that do not know, Derek was a four-year varsity hockey player at St John’s Prep, graduating in 1999. Upon graduation, he went to West Point where he played all four years and was Captain in his senior year. After graduating from West Point in 2003, Derek was deployed to Afghanistan where he was assigned to direct artillery as a fire support officer for an infantry company.
Derek was sadly killed in action in service of his country on September 1, 2005. He was 25. His number 23 has been retired from SJP Hockey and hangs at the Essex rink.
Now going on its 15th year, SJP will be playing Newburyport High School (Derek's hometown) on February 11th in the Derek Hines Memorial Game. In past years the varsity hockey team has presented the proceeds to the Hines family prior to the start of the game. All money raised from the fundraiser goes directly to the 1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund.
We ask you to please consider making a donation to honor the legacy and sacrifice of Derek and to continue the proud tradition that has been established by the Prep Hockey community in the past.
Thank you in advance for supporting a worthy cause and honoring the memory of an American hero.
We are requesting that all donations be made by February 1st 2023.
