Sweet Sophie

My sweet niece, Sophie, eight year old budding astrophysicist, all around funny, beautiful, brave, and incredibly strong  girl, was recently diagnosed with  stage IV metastatic cancer.

Sophie has begun treatment but has a long road ahead of her. She will be having a minimum of five rounds of chemotherapy, a tandem stem cell transplant, surgery, and radiation. That doesn't count the blood transfusions, needle sticks, yucky medicine, etc., etc, etc. She can no longer go to school,but thanks to the Valerie Fund, will attend through a robot that goes to her classroom. She has handled everything with the grace of an angel and she is, without a doubt, my hero.

Her mom, my amazing sister Jill Chhowalla (the family's majority earner), is unable to work due to Sophie's extensive medical needs. This has put a tremendous financial burden on the family, though her dad, Jig Chhowalla (an incredibly devoted father) is still working. Between day to day bills and the cost of extensive, long-term treatment, the financial burden will be astronomical. 

Every penny raised will go directly to the Chhowalla family to support them through this unspeakably difficult time.
